Økern Portal balances daylight for a smart, sustainable future

A landmark 80,000m² development creates a sustainable community between commerce and the local community

Økern Portal is a central landmark in the Økern/Løren district of Oslo.

The 80,000m² development creates a sustainable community between commerce and the local community and offers flexible office space, training facilities, restaurants and cultural experiences, among other things, for employees and local residents. At the top of Økern Portal is one of Northern Europe's largest green-roofs. Where inhabitants of Oslo can explore thousands of different plants, training facilities as well as enjoy spots for recreation. Økern Portal is owned and developed by Oslo Pensjonsforsikring AS.

It has the ambition to be the smartest building in Europe and no exception is made when it comes to balancing the daylight coming into the building.

The benefit of intelligently managing daylight is to balance both the positive and potential harmful effects of the sun, eliminating glare and helping avoid overheating, leading to a much more comfortable and productive environment for the people using the building.

Somfy technology for balancing daylight

With Somfy weather station and sun tracking technology implemented, the building’s shading is controlled by our TouchBuco BACnet solution, meaning it can work in harmony with the Building Management System. The building is fitted with over 2000 shading devices including external venetian blinds, screens and internal screens to help achieve both occupant well-being and energy ambitions.

The building will be certified according to BREEAM NOR level Excellent, one of the highest certification standards for buildings. This requires holistic environmental thinking in all parts of the process, for example, 90 % of the energy for heating comes from energy wells.

We’re delighted to be part of this stunning project and look forward to its completion in 2022.
